The Greenbrier
Operator · Greenbrier Hotel Corp. · White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia[1],[2]
Owns and operates The Greenbrier resort and its Casino Club, historically controlled by the Justice family (Gov. Jim Justice). In Aug. 2026, facing a West Virginia Lottery Commission "financial watch" designation and over $300M in debt (including federal tax liens exceeding $8M), the Justice family agreed to a joint venture with New York investment firm Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, valued at roughly $500M: a new holding company would be majority-owned (51%) by Kennedy Lewis, with a 5-member board (3 Kennedy Lewis appointees, 2 Justice appointees) chaired by Kennedy Lewis's Lloyd Nathan. As of sources reviewed this session, the Lottery Commission's final approval of the ownership transfer was still pending; the casino was permitted to remain open during the review.
